Cameroon's parliament has undergone a significant leadership change as Theodore Datouo was elected as the new speaker, replacing Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, who served for 34 years. This event was reported by state broadcaster CRTV.
The Senate also saw a transition with Aboubakary Abdoulaye taking over from Marcel Niat Njifenji as the president. Abdoulaye is a recognized traditional leader from the northern region.
These appointments mark a noticeable generational shift within Cameroon's political framework, while President Paul Biya extends his lengthy tenure following a controversially claimed victory for an eighth term.
