The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has collaborated with IT giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to upgrade the city's street lighting infrastructure, an official reported on Tuesday. This initiative aims to employ energy-efficient LED streetlights and smart lighting solutions throughout various city boroughs.
According to a KMC official, the partnership with TCS is projected to reduce power expenses while enhancing maintenance through technology-driven monitoring systems. The project involves the gradual replacement of conventional streetlights with LED fixtures and the introduction of a centralized system for real-time fault tracking and energy use.
A pilot phase is set to commence in Kolkata's Kalighat and Alipore areas. Further details regarding the project's financial commitments and timeline will be shared following initial surveys. The new system will feature automated street light scheduling, sensor-based lighting adjustment, and centralized urban management controls, stated KMC's Sandip Ranjan Bakshi.
