New York City found itself reeling from heavy rains on Thursday, resulting in two fatalities and widespread chaos. Mayor Eric Adams announced the tragic news as storms interrupted city life and flights, while meteorologists warned of impending floods in certain locales.
The deluge shattered rainfall records for October 30, with Mayor Adams revealing on X that most of the forecasted precipitation fell within a brief 10-minute span in the afternoon. Reports from weather services highlighted a remarkable 1.85 inches of rain in Central Park, 2.09 inches at LaGuardia, and 1.99 inches at Newark Airport.
The National Weather Service heightened the alarm by issuing coastal flood warnings for sections of the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens, as public officials worked to manage the unfolding emergency.
