Storm Montha's Aftermath: North Bengal Braces for Heavy Rain
The Meteorological Department has warned of moderate rain in north Bengal after the remnants of Cyclone Montha, now over central Chhattisgarh, move toward Bihar. Storm-induced thunderstorms are expected in Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, and Darjeeling. An orange alert has been issued for these areas.

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for moderate rain in several north Bengal districts as the remnants of Cyclone Montha move northwest. The storm previously hit Andhra Pradesh severely and is now losing intensity over central Chhattisgarh, with its path directing it toward Bihar across East Uttar Pradesh.
Storm-induced thunderstorms are expected in parts of Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, and Darjeeling, where an orange alert has been issued. An orange alert signifies that residents should be ready to take action due to the anticipated weather. A yellow alert has been announced for the Uttar Dinajpur district, advising residents to keep watch and stay informed.
In South Bengal, districts including Kolkata experienced light to moderate rain, recording 27.8 mm over a 24-hour period from 8:30 PM on October 29. The rainfall data for north Bengal is still pending. Light rain is expected to continue in some parts of Gangetic West Bengal over the next day.
