A leopard was found dead in a forest area within Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district on Tuesday, according to officials from the Wildlife Protection Department.
Officials recovered the carcass from a gorge in the Onshu forest area, later transferring it to a wildlife center for a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Joginder Paul, the in-charge of the Wildlife Protection Department's Control Room in Udhampur, noted the absence of visible injuries on the animal. He suggested the leopard may have died from a fall, though a definitive answer awaits postmortem results.
