A major seismic event unfolded in the Atlantic Ocean as a 6.5 magnitude earthquake hit, echoing across the eastern Caribbean. The US Geological Survey announced the quake's epicenter was located 160 kilometers east of Guadeloupe, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Islands spread throughout the region, including Antigua and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, experienced the effects of these tremors. In a short span, a second, slightly weaker quake measured at 6.0 magnitude struck in the same vicinity.
Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of damage and no tsunami warnings have been issued, providing some relief to the affected communities.
