The Public Works Department (PWD) in South Delhi has initiated the preliminary steps for a feasibility study targeting the construction of a flyover on SSN Marg in Chhatarpur. This move, officials revealed on Friday, is intended to mitigate the chronic traffic congestion plaguing the area.
The 3-kilometre stretch of Sant Shri Baba Nagpalji (SSN) Marg, heavily used by commuters heading towards Gurugram, the Delhi airport, and other parts of South Delhi, remains congested due to slow-moving traffic and crosscurrents, even during non-peak hours. A tender for a detailed feasibility study has been released, as confirmed by a PWD official.
The ambitious plan aims to construct an integrated transit corridor featuring a flyover, slip roads, underpasses, or foot overbridges for pedestrians. Challenges, including variable road widths due to encroachments and commercial establishments, will be addressed. The study will assess economic, environmental, and social costs, and strategize integration with a nearby metro line to avoid structural conflicts.
