The Karnataka Cabinet held a crucial meeting on Friday, finalizing an internal quota for Scheduled Castes within a 15% reservation framework. The decision, as explained by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, allocates 5.25% each to 'right hand groups' and 'left hand groups,' with 4.55% reserved for other SCs, including nomadic communities.
This adjustment comes in response to a court ruling that limited reservations to 15% for SCs and 3% for Scheduled Tribes, diverging from the State's initial plans of offering 17% for SCs and 7% for STs. By recalibrating these figures, the Cabinet aims to advance the recruitment process for government positions.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, accompanied by Dalit Cabinet ministers, expressed that there was unanimity among the ministers regarding this decision. The move is set to initiate the issuance of recruitment notifications, effectively clearing a significant hurdle in the hiring of government employees.
