In an audacious statement, senior Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asserting that he has become West Bengal's unintended tourism ambassador. Banerjee remarked on Modi's campaign activities, noting they’ve done more to highlight Bengal's scenic beauty than official tourism campaigns.
Addressing rallies in Howrah district, Banerjee pointed out Modi’s appearances, like eating street food in Jhargram and walking by the Ganga river, as marketing feats for the state. He further noted that these acts effectively highlighted infrastructure built under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's governance, claiming they unintentionally bolstered the Ma-Mati-Manush government’s accomplishments.
Banerjee didn't hold back in challenging BJP leaders, notably Union Home Minister Amit Shah, inviting them to explore West Bengal beyond election times to enjoy its vibrant street food scene. Asserting confidence after the first phase of polling, he stated that the TMC is set for a clean sweep, with early trends indicating a strong lead.
