In a recent press briefing, BJP's national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi launched a scathing attack on Congress and its allies, accusing them of obstructing the women's reservation bill in Parliament. Trivedi claimed this move promotes division between the north and south, which he argues is against national interest.
Trivedi criticized the opposition's behavior, stating it reflects an 'anti-women' mindset and undermines women's empowerment. He denounced the atmosphere in the Parliament where laughter and ridicule were directed at the issue, calling it an insult to women’s dignity. Despite the setback, he assured that the BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains unwavering in its commitment to women's rights.
The debate centers on a bill proposing 33% reservation for women in legislatures by 2029, concurrently increasing the Lok Sabha seats. Despite support from the BJP, the bill recently failed to obtain the necessary majority in Lok Sabha. Trivedi emphasized ongoing government initiatives under schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, aimed at enhancing women's economic status and dignity.
