The Congress has rushed to defend its chief, Mallikarjun Kharge, against an Election Commission notice over his 'terrorist' comment aimed at Prime Minister Modi. Labeling the complaint as having 'ulterior motives,' Congress underscored that no laws were breached. In their summary response submitted Thursday, they requested more time for a detailed rebuttal.
In a complaint by Trinamool Congress, the Commission had alleged a model code of conduct violation. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh argued that due process wasn't followed, highlighting discrepancies in the notices and short response times. Kharge clarified that his comments on Modi indicated political intimidation, not literal terrorism.
The Congress pointed fingers at supposed bias in the Election Commission's actions, citing ignored violations by BJP officials. Ramesh criticized the Commission for overlooking serious breaches in Modi's and Home Minister Amit Shah's statements during election periods.
