Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Belur Math in Howrah on Thursday, a revered spiritual center founded by Swami Vivekananda, to underscore West Bengal's rich spiritual and cultural traditions. His visit coincided with the first phase of the Assembly elections, spotlighting the state’s spiritual and electoral vibrancy.
During the visit, PM Modi lauded the teachings of Swami Vivekananda, focusing on themes of youth empowerment, nation-building, and spiritual nationalism, and reiterated his association with the Ramakrishna Mission. Despite the political undertones of the visit, the spotlight remained firmly on West Bengal's cultural and electoral dynamism.
In a related development, the state witnessed a staggering voter turnout, with districts like Dakshin Dinajpur and Cooch Behar leading with over 90% participation. This reflects a strong electoral engagement as the BJP looks to challenge Mamata Banerjee's bid for a fourth term while contesting in a total of 294 Assembly seats.
