West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced confidence in the Trinamool Congress's performance in the ongoing assembly elections, suggesting a likely victory based on current polling results. Speaking at a rally in Kolkata's Bow Bazar, she expressed determination to challenge the BJP at the national level.

The first phase of the assembly polls saw a voter turnout of 89.93 percent by 5 PM, as elections took place in 152 out of 294 assembly seats. With subsequent rounds scheduled and counting on May 4, Banerjee underlined her assessment that the Trinamool Congress is positioned to win.

Banerjee stressed that her motivation is not personal ambition but a desire to end the BJP's governance in Delhi. She declared her intention to unite opposition parties for this cause while noting that she seeks no official post in exchange.
