Battle for Credit in Madhya Pradesh: Land Compensation Saga

The Madhya Pradesh government has increased the compensation amount for farmers' land acquisition by four times, sparking political tensions. The Congress has accused the BJP administration of taking undue credit, urging acknowledgment of the UPA's original legislation under Manmohan Singh that provided for such compensation.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticized the BJP government for not apologizing for the delay in implementing the compensation structure enacted by the UPA a decade ago. He emphasized that the BJP is attempting to project an existing policy as a fresh initiative, instead of acknowledging prior efforts.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav hailed the increase as a historic move, ensuring fair compensation to farmers. He asserted that this measure will benefit farmers while expediting state development projects. The BJP's decision reflects their focus on agricultural welfare, according to Yadav.
