The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday fiercely criticized Bihar MP Rajesh Ranjan, also known as Pappu Yadav, for his offensive remarks directed at women politicians. The party labeled Yadav's comments as derogatory, misogynistic, and outrageous, prompting calls for action against him. Yadav, an Independent MP from Purnea, was captured in a viral video suggesting that "90 percent of women cannot do politics without going into a leader's room," sparking widespread backlash.
The controversy deepened when the Bihar Women's Commission issued a notice to Yadav demanding his response. Yadav, however, staunchly defended his remarks, claiming he intended to shed light on the exploitation some women endure at the hands of their mentors. The BJP, highlighting Yadav's perceived close ties with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, questioned whether Congress would act against the lawmaker.
The situation further entrenched political rivalries, with BJP spokespersons Shehzad Poonawalla and Tuhin A Sinha criticizing Congress and its leadership, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, for their silence on the issue. They accused Congress of treating women's empowerment as mere rhetoric and not as a genuine commitment. As the Bihar Women's Commission awaits Yadav's response, the incident has put a spotlight on political accountability and gender sensitivity in Indian politics.
