Peter Magyar, Hungary's incoming prime minister, announced plans on Friday to begin dialogue with EU officials in Budapest to unlock funds previously frozen due to disputes with his predecessor, Viktor Orban.

Magyar expressed optimism about the upcoming negotiations, aiming to lay a foundation of common ground with the EU, despite time constraints. A high-level delegation, including the chief of staff of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, was scheduled to arrive for these pivotal talks.

With a supermajority win by his Tisza party, Magyar is set to bring legislative changes to address points of contention with the EU, potentially unblocking vital EU funds and aiding Hungary's near-stagnant economy.
