Tipra Motha's Triumph: A New Era in Tripura's Tribal Politics

The Pradyot Debbarma-led Tipra Motha Party has achieved a landslide victory in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) polls. Winning 20 out of 28 seats, the party demonstrates its significant influence among the state's tribal community, as announced by the State Election Commission.

Floating the party in 2020, former royal scion Debbarma has championed the demand for 'Greater Tipraland', which has resonated with voters. While the BJP secured three seats, the CPI(M) and Congress failed to win any seats. Counting continues in five constituencies, with the TMP's success marking its second consecutive triumph.

Debbarma regards the victory as an increase in the party's responsibility and calls for unity and non-violence. Despite being allies, the BJP and Tipra Motha contested elections independently, with a voter turnout of 83.50%, surpassing the previous 81% in 2021.
