Tensions Rise as Japan's Military Vessel Navigates Taiwan Strait

According to Japan's Kyodo news agency, the escort ship Ikazuchi sailed through the strait on Friday. Officials from Japan's Self-Defense Forces have declined to comment on the situation and China's sharp remarks. Since Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's declarations about a potential military response to a Chinese attack on Taiwan, Sino-Japanese relations have only deteriorated.

China continues to assert its sovereignty over Taiwan and the Taiwan Strait, criticizing any foreign military presence there. The move by Japan is seen as a provocation, particularly following Takaichi's comments.
