The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its criticism of Congress leader Pawan Khera after the Supreme Court denied him extended protection from potential coercive actions in a case linked to allegations against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's wife. The court advised Khera to seek relief from a competent court in Assam.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused Khera of using forged documents and running a politically-motivated campaign against Sarma. In a statement, Poonawalla claimed that the documents in question were fabricated and used to politically assassinate Sarma and his family, allegedly with the backing of Pakistan and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
The controversy has further escalated with Poonawalla alleging a historical pattern of Congress targeting Assam and its people. Meanwhile, Khera has been advised by the Supreme Court to apply for anticipatory bail in Assam, as the accusations against him include false statements related to elections and cheating.
