Political Battle Over Women's Quota: Congress Demands Rejection of Mischievous Bills

The Congress party has condemned the government's proposed legislation intended to enforce a women's quota, labeling the bills as "mischievous" with underlying intents related to delimitation. According to Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, the bills, which the government is set to introduce in the Lok Sabha, ostensibly promote women's reservation, but in reality, they are constructed to advantage populous states where the BJP currently holds sway. This maneuver, Ramesh claims, would diminish the relative parliamentary strength of various states.

Ramesh highlighted his concerns through a social media post, pointing out that the delimitation frameworks in areas like Assam and Jammu and Kashmir showcase the "diabolical" methodology attributed to the Modi-Shah leadership duo. Insisting on the rejection of these bills in their present form, Ramesh reiterated the opposition's stance: reserving a third of the existing Lok Sabha seats for women across different communities remains their priority.

The government's legislative agenda involves three key bills, aimed at augmenting the parliamentary seats to 850, with the plan to activate women's reservation by 2029. While opposition parties, including Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party, have marshaled collective opposition against these bills, political strategizing continues as these contentious legislative proposals head for debate.
