In a significant political shift, JD(U) leaders Bijendra Prasad Yadav and Vijay Kumar Chaudhary have been appointed as deputy chief ministers under the new Samrat Choudhary administration in Bihar. On Wednesday, Samrat Choudhary was inducted as the state's 24th Chief Minister, marking the first time a BJP leader has attained this position in Bihar.
Choudhary, keen on maintaining control over key sectors, has retained close to 30 portfolios such as Home, Vigilance, and Revenue. This decision underscores the strategic restructuring within the BJP-led state government. According to a notification by the Cabinet Secretariat Department, Yadav and Chaudhary were the only ministers to take the oath alongside Choudhary.
While Vijay Kumar Chaudhary has been assigned 10 departments, including Water Resources and Parliamentary Affairs, Bijendra Prasad Yadav will oversee eight departments, notably Energy and Finance. This allocation is reminiscent of the previous government's structure but with Samrat Choudhary's unique emphasis on consolidating power.
