In a dramatic revelation, activist Anjali Damania accused several Maharashtra political leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, of being in contact with rape-accused godman Ashok Kharat. Damania claims her information is based on call detail records indicating 17 calls between Shinde and Kharat over an unspecified period.
Damania further alleged that NCP leader Rupali Chakankar, who resigned recently, had 177 calls with Kharat. The disturbing details have triggered political turmoil, although state officials, including Uday Samant and senior BJP ministers, downplayed the implications, suggesting mere phone communications do not establish criminal offense.
The investigation is ongoing as allegations extend to other leaders from BJP and NCP, highlighting the intertwined nature of politics and contentious figures in the state.
