In Nashik, self-proclaimed godman Ashok Kharat was remanded in 14-day judicial custody on charges of repeated rape. Accused by a 35-year-old woman, Kharat faces over 100 complaints, including sexual assault and cheating, with investigations yielding a 20-feet mechanised snake used to deceive followers.

During his hearing, the Special Investigation Team proposed judicial custody as police custody ended. Judge B N Ichpurani granted this until April 14. The case unfolds further with Kharat's son, Harshvardhan, detained briefly for questioning as authorities seek out additional evidence against Kharat and his wife Kalpana.

Kharat, a temple trust leader in Sinnar, has a high-profile history, attracting political figures to his premises, now a hub of criminal inquiries. Last week, a forensic science team uncovered documents and evidence from his office, intensifying the intrigue surrounding his alleged fraudulent activities.
