The controversy involves Greek stockbreeders allegedly faking pastureland ownership to fraudulently acquire EU subsidies, with alleged assistance from state employees and conservative politicians. The European Chief Prosecutor has requested parliament to lift immunity from 11 lawmakers for investigation.
Amidst this turmoil, Mitsotakis appointed former European Commission vice-president Margaritis Schinas as the new agriculture minister. The reshuffle was met with skepticism by opposition parties who renewed demands for early elections, challenging the government's credibility.
