Rapid Sentry Deployment: UK's Shield in the Gulf
In response to an overnight Iranian drone attack on a Kuwaiti oil facility, the UK is deploying its Rapid Sentry air defence system to Kuwait. Britain is stepping up its defense measures in the Gulf by deploying the Rapid Sentry air defence system to Kuwait, following an Iranian drone assault on a Kuwaiti oil facility. Prime Minister Keir Starmer's office announced this deployment on Friday, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in the region.
During a phone call with Kuwait's Crown Prince, Sabah al-Khalid al-Sabah, Prime Minister Starmer strongly condemned the attack, reiterating Britain's commitment to support Kuwait and its Gulf allies. The discussions primarily focused on deploying the air defence system aimed at countering low-flying aerial threats, thus safeguarding regional interests.
The leaders also addressed disruptions to global shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, underlining the importance of maintaining open shipping lanes. A strategy meeting, led by British Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper, was held to formulate a plan to reopen this essential maritime corridor.
