Electoral Roll Chaos in Malda: Tensions Rise as Judicial Officers Gheraoed

In a dramatic turn of events in Malda district, seven judicial officers conducting the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls were surrounded by an agitated mob over the removal of names from the voters list. Among them were three women taken hostage for several hours in an incident that drew widespread condemnation.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of orchestrating the unrest to protect alleged bogus voters. BJP spokesperson Debajit Sarkar criticized the TMC for inciting 'jihadi elements' and shadowy forces to instigate chaos.

Amid tensions, security forces intervened with forceful measures to free the judicial officials. Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress expressed disapproval of the illegal demonstrations but challenged the Election Commission, highlighting the manifold issues in the deletion of voters, thus pointing fingers at administrative lapses.
