Parliament's budget session may be briefly paused but is set to reconvene in late April, according to sources. The government's agenda includes an ambitious proposal to expand Lok Sabha seats from 543 to 816, significantly enhancing women's representation with 273 reserved seats.

This expansion, sourced from the 2011 census data for delimitation, has sparked concerns. The opposition warns of geographical imbalances, particularly affecting southern states, which could see a political power shift favoring northern states, raising fears of marginalization.

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh criticizes this move, labeling it a hasty legislative effort. He warns that the proposed changes may create systemic imbalances, as states like Uttar Pradesh could gain disproportionately more seats than southern states, underscoring the potential long-term regional disparities.
