A Delhi court has rejected the defamation complaint brought by Lipika Mitra, the wife of former AAP MLA Somnath Bharti, against Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Paras Dalal, stated that there was no reason to proceed, thus dismissing the case.
The complaint accused Sitharaman of making defamatory and malicious remarks during a press conference on May 17, 2024. These statements were allegedly intended to damage Bharti’s reputation and diminish his electoral prospects in the 2024 general elections.
Mitra's complaint suggested that the remarks were made for political gain to benefit BJP candidates. The court's detailed reasoning behind the dismissal is awaited.
