Nitish Kumar Set to Return as JD(U) President

Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar, has filed his nomination for the position of JD(U) president, signaling his comeback to national politics as he eyes the Rajya Sabha. The nomination was officially submitted on his behalf by JD(U) national working president Sanjay Kumar Jha at the party's central office.

According to party insiders, Nitish Kumar is the only candidate likely to be elected unopposed, given that no other nominations have been anticipated. JD(U) national spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Prasad mentioned that the final date to file nominations is March 22, with the withdrawal deadline on March 24.

Prasad also noted that the scrutiny of candidate documents would occur on March 23, and the counting of votes is scheduled for March 27, should there be additional contenders. The leadership transition occurs ahead of the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, with Kumar seeking to lead JD(U) once more after Rajiv Ranjan Singh resigned as party president in December 2023.
