Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took center stage as he led a procession to submit his nomination for Jalukbari's assembly seat on Friday. The crowd commenced from the Khanapara Veterinary Field, culminating at the Kamrup (Metropolitan) District Election Office.
Flanked by family and BJP MP Bijuli Kalita Medhi, Sarma underscored the importance of motherly blessings before embarking on the journey. Despite adverse weather conditions, supporters thronged the assembly point, expressing robust support for Sarma's re-election bid.
First elected in 2001, Sarma aims for a sixth consecutive term. Having switched to the BJP in 2015, his political career has witnessed growing margins of victory. Assam elections are slated for April 9, with counting on May 4.
