Kanwaljeet Singh Cheema, a former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, has officially joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), as announced by party president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday. Cheema is expected to bolster the party with his vast administrative experience.
During his career, Cheema served notably as the special principal secretary to former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. His role involved accompanying the former chief minister at public forums to address community issues, affirming his commitment to Punjab's development.
SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal commended Cheema's decision, highlighting the party's longstanding history of service. The move comes amidst criticisms of the current Punjab government, with allegations of lawlessness and misleading investment claims.
