Kanwaljeet Singh Cheema, a former IAS officer, has officially joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in a ceremony attended by party president Sukhbir Singh Badal. Cheema, who served in the 1993-batch of the West Bengal cadre, has been recognized for his long administrative experience.
Cheema previously served as special principal secretary to both former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. His addition to SAD is seen as a move to strengthen the party's political standing. Cheema's track record includes accompanying Parkash Singh Badal on 'Sangat Darshan' programmes.
In a critique of the current administration, SAD president Badal criticized the AAP government, accusing it of misleading the public about investment figures and failing to maintain law and order. Badal claims the state secured only Rs 2,600 crore in investments, contrary to higher figures announced by the government.
