In a strategic shift, Senior Tipra Motha Party (TMP) MLA Ranjit Debbarma has announced intentions to ally with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.
Currently part of Tripura’s Manik Saha-led coalition government, the TMP does not share power in the tribal council. Party leader Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma is in discussions with key BJP figures, including BL Santosh and Sambit Patra, to possibly collaborate for electoral success.
Elections for the 28-seat TTAADC are set for April, and Debbarma emphasized the necessity to finalize seat-sharing arrangements. Previously, in the 2021 elections, TMP secured 18 seats while the BJP-IPFT alliance won nine in a 30-member council.
