On Thursday, R N Ravi was inaugurated as the 22nd governor of West Bengal at a ceremony at Lok Bhavan. Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court, Sujoy Paul, administered the oath of office in the presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and other state officials. Notably, no opposition BJP leaders attended the event.
The ceremony, beginning with the national song and anthem, saw Ravi receiving the Guard of Honour before being sworn in at Sardar Patel Unity Hall. Following the oath, Chief Minister Banerjee welcomed Ravi and his wife with traditional 'uttariyas' and emphasized Bengal's rich cultural landscape.
Ravi, who previously governed Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Tamil Nadu, expressed a commitment to overseeing developments in West Bengal. He remarked on Kolkata's cultural significance and historical importance during British rule. Ravi took over the position after his predecessor, C V Ananda Bose, resigned in March.
