Unity in Condemnation: Leaders Rally Against Attack on Farooq Abdullah

Political leaders in Kashmir, transcending party affiliations, have united in their condemnation of a recent attack on Farooq Abdullah, the National Conference president and former chief minister. The incident took place in Jammu, where Abdullah narrowly escaped after an assailant allegedly opened fire at him during a marriage event.

The gunman, identified as 63-year-old Kamal Singh Jamwal, has since been arrested. Reports indicate he had been planning the attack for two decades, aiming to target Abdullah. Despite the close call, Abdullah was unharmed. The event has sparked widespread calls from politicians for a comprehensive investigation into the security lapse.

Prominent figures, including Mehbooba Mufti and Sajad Gani Lone, have expressed relief at Abdullah's safety but emphasized the necessity for an inquiry. Religious leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and CPI(M) leader M Y Tarigami also emphasized the gravity of the security oversight, demanding answers as to how the attacker came so close with a weapon.
