The Purani Mandi community has condemned the attack on former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, stating the incident has tarnished the locality’s reputation. Abdullah, aged 88, narrowly escaped harm when a gunman opened fire at him during a marriage event on the outskirts of Jammu.
The accused, Kamal Singh Jamwal, 63, was apprehended and reportedly confessed to planning the attack for decades. Local leader Ritesh Gupta emphasized that disputes should be resolved legally, without resorting to violence. The incident shocked residents, who described Jamwal as previously well-behaved.
Many in the community are questioning how a weapon was brought into the venue, while security measures have been increased. The motives behind the attack remain unclear, though speculation suggests a long-standing grievance or political misstep.
