In a chilling incident on Wednesday night, veteran politician and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah narrowly escaped an assassination attempt during a marriage function on the city's outskirts. The assailant, Kamal Singh Jamwal, allegedly targeted Abdullah as he was departing the venue.

The attacker managed to reach point-blank range, but was overpowered by Abdullah's security team, including NSG personnel. Abdullah, a Z+ category protectee, expressed relief, saying, "God saved me." Concerns about security protocols in the sensitive Union Territory have been heightened in light of this incident.

Omar Abdullah, his son and the current Chief Minister, voiced his concerns on social media, questioning how the attacker breached tight security. Authorities are now reevaluating the security measures for central government protectees in Jammu and Kashmir.
