US Allows India's Russian Oil Imports Amid Gulf Crisis, Congress Criticizes Modi

In a sharp political exchange, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh targeted the Indian government after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced a temporary allowance for India to import Russian oil. Ramesh accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being 'cowardly and compromised,' suggesting India's compliance with US directives on oil purchases.

This development follows Bessent's acknowledgment that India halted buying sanctioned Russian oil as per US requests and planned a switch to American oil supplies. However, due to global supply chain disruptions, a 30-day exemption was granted to India to mitigate oil shortages.
