A strong backlash has erupted after BJP MLA Bahadur Singh Koli made controversial sexist remarks during a budget discussion in the Rajasthan Assembly. His comments, which equated the BJP government's budget to the 'birth of a boy' and the previous budget to the 'birth of a girl', have been met with widespread condemnation from social organisations.
Social and women's rights activists have voiced their displeasure, highlighting that such remarks reinforce patriarchal norms and trivialize the value of daughters. The statements, they argue, are indicative of an outdated mentality that underlines gender inequality.
In response, a memorandum demanding action against Koli was submitted to Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani. Activists have urged for the remarks to be expunged from records and called for Koli to issue a public apology. They assert that allowing such rhetoric to stand could set a dangerous precedent for political discourse in the state.
