A BJP MLA in Rajasthan has recently come under fire for comments made during the state Assembly's budget debate. Weir MLA Bahadur Singh Koli compared the BJP government's budget to the 'birth of a boy', while derogatorily referring to the former Congress regime's budget as the 'birth of a girl.'
His remarks have sparked uproar among Congress members, with Leader of the Opposition Tika Ram Jully labeling the analogy as discriminatory and inappropriate. Jully criticized the laughter from BJP MLAs, expressing shame over such gender-biased thinking and demanding a clarification from the ruling party.
Koli defended his statement to reporters, questioning the criticism by implying cultural context. However, the remarks have been seen as perpetuating stereotypes, especially given the push for gender equality in serious political discussions.
