On Tuesday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took a strong stance against the Election Commission, dubbing it a 'Tughlaqi Commission' in reference to arbitrary governance under Sultan Muhammad bin Tughlaq. She accused the commission of voter list manipulation to benefit a political agenda.
Banerjee alleged a deliberate removal of 58 lakh voters' names in Bengal, with a BJP IT cell member using artificial intelligence to execute this operation. She claimed these actions defy Supreme Court directives and suggested West Bengal's voters are being unjustly targeted.
The Chief Minister expressed her intent to defend suspended state officers amidst what she described as an orchestrated attack on democratic rights. Banerjee contended that voter deletions are taking place under the Social Impact Report (SIR) initiative, exacerbating stress and causing fatalities.
