Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has recounted a pivotal moment in his political career, revealing how in 2014, as a Congress leader, he was poised to become Chief Minister. Sarma claims Sonia Gandhi expressed support for his ascension, with a majority of party MLAs backing him. However, the landscape shifted dramatically after Rahul Gandhi intervened from the USA, prompting a change in party dynamics.
Faced with mounting pressure and perceived injustice within the Congress, Sarma departed for the BJP in 2015. Reflecting on his political journey, he credits this decision for providing him the platform to serve Assam and promote Sanatan dharma, affirming that staying in Congress would have stifled these opportunities.
Sarma also alluded to internal Congress strife and alleged attempts to control regional leaders. He mentioned ongoing political developments and hinted at possible future revelations about his transition from Congress, emphasizing the challenges faced by grassroots leaders in the party's eco-system.
