In a significant political shift, Tarique Rahman is on the cusp of becoming Bangladesh's Prime Minister after his selection as the leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)'s parliamentary contingent. The move comes amidst tense political dynamics surrounding the Constitution Reform Council, aimed at revising the national charter.

The newly inaugurated BNP members were administered the parliamentary oath by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasirudin, while initial refusals by Jamaat-e-Islami MPs added to the day's uncertainty. The oath-taking ceremony was part of broader efforts to end the constitutional stalemate.

President Mohammad Shahabuddin is scheduled to formalize the BNP's governance by overseeing the cabinet's swearing-in. With 209 seats secured by BNP, coupled with Jamaat-e-Islami's 68, the political landscape displays new allegiances, particularly after the Awami League's exclusion from the electoral race.
