Jairam Ramesh Accuses Modi of Betraying Farmers over Trade Deal

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of betraying the interests of millions of farmers by agreeing to a trade deal with the United States. According to Ramesh, former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned because the Modi government disapproved of his pro-farmer stance.

Ramesh claimed in a social media post that Dhankhar, who hails from a farming background, was sidelined by the current administration for his supportive voice towards farmers. He pointed out the absence of a farewell ceremony for Dhankhar, suggesting it indicates broader issues within the government.

The Congress party has consistently criticized the BJP-led government for allegedly compromising on farmers’ welfare under the new trade agreement with the U.S. Despite these allegations, the government maintains that the deal safeguards Indian farmers' interests.
