Mamata Banerjee Calls for Chief Election Commissioner's Impeachment Amidst SIR Controversy

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has called for the impeachment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. She is accusing him of conducting a biased Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which she claims unfairly targets her party's supporters.

Speaking at a press conference in the national capital, Banerjee alleged that the revision disproportionately impacts marginalised communities and questioned the timing of the exercise, which coincides with the upcoming assembly elections.

The Chief Minister, along with affected individuals, has petitioned the Supreme Court and is rallying opposition parties to address what she claims is a politically motivated move orchestrated by the BJP.
