Mamata Banerjee Calls for Impeachment of CEC Amid SIR Controversy

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal has demanded the impeachment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, amidst ongoing controversy surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the state.

In a bold move, Banerjee accused the election commission of deliberately targeting supporters of her party, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), particularly among marginalized communities such as Dalits and minorities.

Speaking in the national capital, Banerjee expressed her frustration with what she described as a lack of accountability within the commission, which she argues is acting in favor of the ruling BJP. The TMC has also petitioned the Supreme Court against the SIR process, alleging it unfairly impacts upcoming elections.
