Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has reaffirmed the state's commitment to combating hate speech by announcing that a First Information Report (FIR) will be registered against anyone delivering such rhetoric. The chief minister stressed that measures will be taken against individuals attempting to foster division and disrupt social harmony.
His statements follow the police action against Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, an RSS leader, who is accused of making derogatory remarks against women and inciting religious discord during a recent 'Deepotsava' event. Bhat's comments, which were reportedly broadcast on a YouTube channel, led to public outcry and prompted law enforcement to intervene.
A complaint lodged by a resident accused Bhat of spreading religious hatred and threatened public peace, triggering the police to issue a notice for Bhat to appear for questioning. The event organizers have also been implicated, highlighting the government's zero-tolerance approach to hate speech and societal unrest.
