Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday honored socialist icon Karpoori Thakur by visiting his native village before kicking off the NDA's election campaign in Bihar with a rally in Samastipur. Joined by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Union Minister Ram Nath Thakur, Modi underscored the late leader’s contributions to social justice and integrity.

In a pointed address, Modi took aim at the RJD-Congress-led INDIA bloc opposition, accusing them of trying to appropriate Thakur's legacy. He critiqued several opposition figures as being involved in corruption and on bail, claiming they were attempting to 'steal' the title of 'Jannayak'.

Modi reaffirmed that the state would not tolerate such disrespect and highlighted the government’s efforts to advance Thakur's mission of social equity. Emphasizing policies for the upliftment of marginalized communities, Modi credited Thakur with shaping an enduring vision of inclusivity in Indian politics.
