Orban Accuses EU of Puppet Government Plots Amid Election Challenge
Prime Minister Viktor Orban accuses the EU of trying to impose a puppet government in Hungary, framing the next election as a choice between peace and war. Tensions are high as the EU is set to finance Ukraine despite Orban's opposition. Meanwhile, a canceled Trump-Putin summit adds complexity.
Nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban has accused the European Union of attempting to impose a puppet government on Hungary. He has framed next year's election as a pivotal choice between maintaining peace or engaging in warfare to "die for Ukraine," against the aspirations of the EU.
Speaking to tens of thousands in Budapest, Orban emphasized that Brussels aims to bring war into Europe under the guise of integrating Ukraine. He strongly opposes Ukraine's potential EU membership, stating it threatens Hungarian agriculture and jobs.
The canceled Trump-Putin summit in Budapest complicates Orban's position as he faces opposition from the Tisza party amid claims of his government's authoritarianism and corruption.
