In Budgam's upcoming bypoll, 17 candidates have had their nominations accepted, nine of whom are crorepatis. Among these, three have criminal cases, while eight candidates have education beyond class 12. The bypoll was triggered by Omar Abdullah's decision to vacate his Budgam seat for Ganderbal.
National Conference's Aga Syed Mehmood stands out as the wealthiest candidate with over Rs 15 crore in assets. Despite his financial stature, Mehmood carries liabilities of Rs 97.69 lakh. Meanwhile, two candidates, Jibran Dar and Manzoor Ahmad, claimed assets under Rs 1 lakh, highlighting economic disparities.
With educational attainments ranging from class 8 to a PhD, the candidates depict a diverse academic profile. While many maintain a clear record, Apni Party's Mukhtar Ahmad, BJP's Syed Mohsin, and independent Jibran Dar face legal challenges. The withdrawal of nominations concludes on Friday.
